- 2 tbsp red food coloring (gel preferred)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the red velvet cake mix, eggs, melted butter, buttermilk, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and food coloring. Mix until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow cooling completely.
- While the cakes cool, beat together the cream cheese and softened butter until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
- Assemble by placing one cake layer on a serving platter and spreading frosting on top before adding the second layer. Frost the entire cake generously.
