  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice apples; toss with lemon juice.
  3. In a large bowl, combine apples with both sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour.
  4. Roll out the pie crust and place it in the pie pan.
  5. Fill crust with apple mixture; dot with butter and cover with top crust.
  6. Cut slits in the top for steam to escape and brush with egg wash.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce heat to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 40-50 minutes until golden brown.
