  • 4 large sweet potatoes (about 2 lbs)
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and chop sweet potatoes into chunks. Boil in water until fork-tender (15-20 minutes). Drain.
  3. Mash the sweet potatoes in the pot while warm, adding melted butter for richness.
  4. Stir in maple syrup, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  5. Transfer to a greased baking dish and smooth the top.
  6. In a bowl, mix chopped nuts with melted butter and sprinkle over the sweet potato mixture.
  7. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden. If using marshmallows, add during the last 5 minutes.
