This rich and savory pasta is enveloped in a hearty meat sauce, making it the perfect comfort food for family dinners or gatherings with friends. With simple ingredients and straightforward steps, you’ll have a delicious meal that will impress everyone.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz rigatoni pasta
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz canned whole tomatoes, crushed by hand
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ¼ cup fresh basil, chopped (or 1 tsp dried)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown (about 5 minutes). Stir in minced garlic until fragrant.
  2. Increase heat slightly and add ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add crushed tomatoes with their juices to the skillet. Scrape any browned bits from the bottom and let simmer for 15 minutes until thickened.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and fresh basil. Simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, boil salted water in another pot and cook rigatoni according to package instructions until al dente; drain while reserving some pasta water.
  6. Combine cooked rigatoni with the sauce in the skillet, adding reserved pasta water if needed for creaminess. Serve hot topped with grated Parmesan.
